The royal Nile exhibits expose Frank’s deception, but Lily hires Frank anyway after offering Nilo less and bravely fighting a jaguar in a nearby bar. The Houghtons leave with Frank on their ship, foiling Nilo’s attempt to seize his engine, while Joachim and his mercenaries attempt to attack a German submarine.
After escaping, Frank and the Houghtons travel downstream. At Frank’s cabin, Lily discovers that the jaguar is his pet, Proxima. She also finds photos and sketches of innovations, similar to the car, but also discovers drawings and analysis of the Tears of the Moon, causing Lily to doubt Frank’s reliability and accuse him of wanting the arrowhead as well. The group is captured by a tribe of “cannibals”, but that is also one of Frank’s preset risks.

When the Spanish attacked the natives, Frank switched allegiance to defend the villagers. After years of fighting, Frank has trapped Aguirre and the others by the river to petrify them. He then took years to find the tree to lift his personal curse, but he was forced to surrender.
Lily and Frank make the ultimate trip to the tree, leaving their brother behind. Joachim captures MacGregor, who has been forced to betray his sister, and gives him the location. Frank, Lily, the Germans and the Spanish gather at the tree, which seems completely useless. There they discover that the arrowhead contains a puzzle to open the piece of entrails. After discovering the right place for the purple gem, he presses against the tree that blooms spectacularly under the blood moon.
A fight ensues. Finally, as the moon goes through the fights, Lily can hit with just one petal. Joachim dies and Frank crashes his boat to dam the river and turn him and the fucking Spaniards to stone. Lily uses the petal to break Frank’s curse. The moon casts a final ray and a single petal blooms; Lily’s analysis can continue.
Upon her return to England, the association grants Lily full membership, which she rejects through MacGregor, who denounces society as chauvinistic, insular, and unworthy of benefiting from her analysis.
